Project Story:
The narrow, flat area behind this Madeira, OH, was underused, with boring landscaping and an inadequate patio. To increase the space and provide for a multitude of outdoor activities, the small patio was increased to a meandering terrace with two main rooms. On one end, a grill area, complete with bar seating, forms a barrier. On the other, a covered room anchors the patio and provides much needed shade. The roof in this area was designed to fit between the first and second floor windows, resulting in a unique and custom pitch. On the inside, to increase the feeling of height, the ceiling is set as high into the roof as possible. In between the two areas, a fire circle, with a matching bench, creates a great hang-out any time roasted marshmallows are in order.
